Welcome to stealth wealth: The Audi A8's a rich man's car that won't upset the neighbours

September 5, 2010 |22:35 | Audi  By : Team X

We're in for a bumpy recovery - but some of us are doing all right, to judge by sales of £50,000-plus cars. While cheaper vehicles have suffered from the £2,000 Scrappage scheme being withdrawn, upmarket ones are flying out of showrooms. Who's buying them?

Welcome to stealth wealth: The Audi A8's a rich man's car that won't upset the neighbours

Well, one bunch must be the Audi marketing wonks - clever blokes in roll-neck jumpers and ladies with rimless glasses. They'll be patting themselves on the back and splashing the cash, because every new car they've launched recently has hit a chord, from the brilliant R8 Spyder I reviewed a few months back, to the little A1 that's just about to launch. You just know the A1's going to have a cool advert, don't you - something clever with a big white room and some ballbearings.

Audi A1 e-tron concept wins 2010 e-car-award

June 11, 2010 |13:30 | Audi | Gossips  By : Team X

Germany's Auto Test magazine presented its first annual "e-car-award" at an electric trade show last week. The recipient of the award was none other than Audi's A1 e-tron, an electric concept car that we saw earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show.

Out of 24 cars, Audi managed to make the list not once, but twice. First with the aforementioned A1 e-tron and a second time (placing fourth) with the e-tron show car, which we saw at the Detroit Auto Show back in January. Auto Test turned to its readers to narrow down the group of 24 cars. In all, more than 36,000 readers cast votes to crown the victor.

Audi Q7: Nap safely?

May 28, 2010 |09:48 | Audi  By : Team X

Audi Q7: Nap safely? The Audi Q7 3.0 TDI was supposed to have undergone an emission test at Vicom's newly opened test lab. Arranging the test with ComfortDel-Gro Corp, which owns Vicom, took about a week to nail down. ComfortDel-Gro was generous enough to waive the fee, which would have amounted to a couple of thousand bucks, if its service was mentioned in this column.

The purpose was to find out exactly how the tailpipe emissions of the Q7 turbodiesel, the only Euro 6 diesel passenger vehicle on the road here, differ from exhaust gases of petrol versions.

2010 Audi A4: The Car With The Sixth Sense

May 26, 2010 |09:25 | Audi  By : Team X

The other day I was listening to my friend explain about his current model Audi A4 1.8TFSI. This car is an amazing car, not because of how it drives or how it performs, but because of all of its systems  (it does also drive well by the way). The car is packed full of electronics and sensors that would make the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft seem obsolete. Let me tell you readers why I say this Audi is among the world’s most complicated piece of machinery made by man, and why it is actually the catalyst towards machines taking over the world.

2010 Audi A4: The Car With The Sixth Sense

This isn’t a car, it’s a space station. This friend of mine took it to a garage who is in good relations with the Audi Club Malaysia members. He took it to get the engine oil and the filter changed as he regularly does at the garage, but they found that the fluid filled engine mount was leaking. This being an Audi, the first thing the garage owner does to properly ensure that there is indeed a leak in the mountings is to plug in the VAG fault code reader (like in the photo below) to see whether there is a leak or not. What they found out was that there was indeed a faulty engine mount. Of course it was obvious as my friend could see that the engine mount was indeed leaking with his own two eyes. But this being an Audi, it needs a computer to tell you that it is actually leaking fluid. Audi has a sensor located at each engine mount telling its ECU that the mount is working perfectly or not. My friend said he couldn’t even feel any difference even with the leak. But this isn’t the point.

Audi Debuts Long-Wheelbase A8L, Reintroduces W12

April 16, 2010 |10:31 | Audi  By : Team X

With China quickly becoming one of the largest markets for the German marque, and especially for long-wheelbase models, it's wise for Audi to release the latest long-wheelbase A8l with the Beijing just a week away. And with the "bigger is better" mentality quickly taking hold over there, we certainly have no doubt this will sell quite well in that market.

However, with the car looking as it does, and with a W12 engine under the hood (though other powertrains will still be offered in the longer body), the latest A8L should have no trouble standing on its own four feet elsewhere either. On the outside, the aesthetics of the shorter A8 have been carried over almost unaltered.

Audi RS5 brochure images leaked!

February 22, 2010 |11:18 | Audi  By : Team X

Audi RS5 brochure images leakedA hot RS version of Audi’s sleek A5 coupe has been rumoured for long, and now we can confirm its existance and possible debut at next month’s Geneva show, thanks to these leaked brochure images.

Not much is known technically, but some parties have said that the RS5 will be powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 with around 450bhp and 450 Nm.

From these images, we can see that the RS5’s redline is set at about 8200 rpm, so we’re looking at a high revving screamer here. Also gathered from the brochure is the lack of a manual option; Audi’s S-tronic auto transmission is pictured here. Options will include three types of front seats and four wheel designs. But no flat bottomed steering wheel?
