2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT RS Part I

June 23, 2009 |09:14 | Chevrolet  By : Team X

2010-Chevrolet-Camaro-2LT-RGuys were blowing kisses, sounding wolf whistles, winking and giving their overwhelmingly enthusiastic thumbs-up. Girls too, were displaying amorous looks, mock kisses and “grrrr” sounds. People of all ages were showing their approval in most unusual ways. Not for me – for the CAMARO!
This car looks insanely cool. Every line exudes sex appeal with one of the most aggressive front fascias in the industry. There’s a growl in its angry face that looks even more ferocious than the lovingly designed Dodge Challenger. Add this to the cropped roof line (which sits impossibly low) and huge fender flairs and you have one of the most attractive vehicles General Motors has designed. It gets better!
My tester was the V6 with the RS package and an automatic 6-speed transmission. It was as if the automotive gods were teasing me when I found out. Even in this slowest form, the Camaro impresses. You see, many of the components were sourced from the excellent Cadillac CTS.

May 14, 2009 |09:33 | Chevrolet  By : Team X

The 2009 Silverado is the second full-size fuel-efficient pickup from General Motors Corp. While the previous Chevrolet Silverado trucks offered as a mild hybrid solution, mostly professionals who found it useful as a power generator at work sites, the 2009 Chevy Silverado features GM's sophisticated electric system. It offers a broader range of technical advances with a 2-Mode system.

The 2-Mode Hybrid system works with a powerful 6.0L V-8 gasoline engine. The system provides all-electric driving at low speeds. The Chevy pickup has a towing capacity of 6,100 pounds, even when the truck is in its low-speed mode.

Chevrolet shows some Spark

Chevrolet shows some Spark

At the Detroit auto show, GM gave production details for its new small car, which will come out under the Chevrolet badge with Spark as the model name. This new car is based on the Beat concept shown last year, and gets its official launch at the upcoming Geneva auto show. The Spark satisfies the need for a small city car in Chevrolet's lineup.

The brand's current small car is the Aveo, but that model is licensed from Daewoo. The Spark is home-grown. As a city car, the Spark has minimal room for cargo unless there are no rear seat passengers. GM did interesting things with the styling, for example, hiding the rear door handle in the C-pillar.

Engine choices for Europe will be 1-liter and a 1.2-liter four-cylinder engines. Surprising for such a small car, it can be had with front, side, and side curtain airbags, along with anti-lock brakes and stability control.
GM refers to the instrument cluster as motorcycle-inspired.

Chevrolet Aveo 1.4 LT

August 12, 2008 |12:58 | Chevrolet  By : Team X

THE CHEVROLET Aveo is the American firm's latest attempt to compete with the best superminis produced in Europe and Japan.

How much of the US firm's DNA is in the Aveo is debatable however, because although it's been over three years since the Chevy badge replaced that of Daewoo on cars and showrooms around the UK and Europe, the new five-door supermini still looks and feels more like a Korean city car than a genuine slice of the American dream.
Until Daewoo's demise both firm's came under the umbrella of General Motors. Now it's Chevy alone and with three and five-door models and two engine choices, and prices starting from £7,695, the US manufacturer is determined to at least tempt the cost-conscious motorist into its showrooms.

General Motors swaps Hummers for mini-cars as fuel prices soar in the US

July 8, 2008 |15:05 | Chevrolet  By : Team X

General Motors, the maker of the iconic off-road Hummer, may be gearing itself up to sell mini-cars in the US, in order to win back market share as soaring fuel costs turn Americans off gas-guzzlers.

Usually sold only in Asia and Latin America, GM is thought to be developing a version of the Chevrolet Beat for America’s highways, according to a report by Bloomberg. Not much bigger than the Daimler Smart car, the Chevrolet Beat does 40 miles to the gallon - making its fuel efficiency second only to hybrid cars in the US.

The consideration by GM comes after the company’s US sales tumbled 18.5pc last month, while rivals Ford and Toyota also reported dwindling sales, down 28pc and 11.5pc respectively.

Quick Test: 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe LT

February 27, 2008 |11:49 | Chevrolet  By : Team X

The 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the youngest fullsize SUVs on the market, second only to the all-new Toyota Sequoia. Take the transmission. Paired with a 5.3-liter V-8 whose 320 horsepower, the Tahoe's four-speed proved its Achilles heel at the dragstrip, delivering a weak 0-to-60 time (8.3 seconds) and a slow quarter-mile trap speed (85.6 mph). The Chevy's four-speed struggled on mountain roads, as well, its tall ratios making it difficult to find the ideal gear. Notes editor at large Arthur St. Antoine, "Where you particularly miss the extra cog is rolling briskly downhill, where second is too low and third is too high." Manual mode? Not offered. Note to Chevy: Install the Cadillac Escalade's Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed or, at the very least, its nifty gear-lever-mounted manual-shift buttons.

2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Dominates Barrett-Jackson Muscle-Car Auction

January 23, 2008 |11:21 | Chevrolet  By : Team X

The 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR sold for $550,000, while the 2008 Dodge Challenger brought up the rear, selling for $400,000. Each automaker donated money from the sale of the muscle cars to a designated charity.

The Challenger was purchased by Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson who said, "When the new Challenger crossed the block, we decided it was a great opportunity for the Barrett-Jackson team to jump in."

The auction house characterized the bidding over the three retro-inspired vehicles as "muscle car wars reborn." The event had lots of red-carpet glitz, with Tonight Show host Jay Leno piloting the ZR1 across the block. Carroll Shelby revved up the crowd during the sale of the GT500KR.

Ford donated the proceeds of the GT500KR to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, while GM donated a portion of the proceeds of the Corvette's winning bid to United Way. The proceeds from the new Challenger were donated to Not My Kid, Inc.

What this means to you: The Corvette ZR1 is undoubtedly the hottest property at Barrett-Jackson's "muscle car wars." — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Chevrolet Europe targets booming new Eastern markets

July 18, 2007 |11:49 | Chevrolet  By : Team X

KILLARNEY, IRELAND -- General Motors may be having to beg, plead and bribe for every sale in the U.S., but its blue-collar subsidiary Chevrolet is on the crest of a wave in Europe.Chevrolet sales are booming, but the model names won't mean much to Americans, with the tiny Chevrolet Matiz, and other small cars like the Kalos (the Aveo in the U.S.), Lacetti and Tacumas swarming off dealer lots across Europe. The Captiva, Chevrolet's new Sport Utility vehicle launched recently here in south-west Ireland, won't mean a lot to Americans either, although if you look closely you'll realize it is a Saturn Vue in all but name. Chinese readers will know it as the XL7.Chevrolets are doing best in new markets like Poland, Ukraine and Russia, where buyers are often finally able to buy their first cars, but it is also competing well in Italy and Spain, where little and cheap go down big.GM already has two important brands in Western Europe, German-based Opel and British Vauxhall, and until recently it used its Korean subsidiary Daewoo to spearhead sales in less developed markets. It was one of General Motors' better ideas to change the name of products made by its Korean subsidiary Daewoo, to Chevrolet.Daewoo made worthy cars, but the brand name had zero power in the dealership. You might say that Chevrolet isn't very well known either in Europe, although motors like the Chevrolet Impala and the Corvette had their admirers here.
